LPH ratings explained, with a simple way to pick the right cream separator size for your milk volume.
Cream separators are sold by capacity in litres per hour (LPH). Picking the right one saves money and time.
Our separator range at a glance
- 60 LPH: households and small farms (hand or electric).
- 100 LPH: small dairies with a few animals (electric).
- 165 LPH: farms and dairies with cows or goats (hand-cum-electric, about 18 L tank).
- 300 LPH: busier farms and small dairies (electric, about 28 L tank, 1/2 hp motor).
- 550 LPH: larger dairies (electric, about 40 L tank, 1/2 hp motor).

A simple way to choose
Divide your daily milk by the number of hours you are happy to spend separating. For example, 300 litres in two hours needs about 150 LPH. Then pick the nearest model above that number so you have a small margin.
Other points to check
- Power supply (220 V or 110 V) and motor rating.
- Material of the bowl, which should be stainless steel.
- How easy the parts are to take apart and clean.

Frequently asked questions
What does LPH mean?
LPH stands for litres per hour, the amount of milk the separator can process in one hour.
Is a bigger separator always better?
No. A machine far larger than your needs costs more and takes more effort to clean. Choose the smallest size that handles your daily milk comfortably.
